Rio Tinto Red (36" x 78")

$4,800.00

Acrylic on canvas

To collect the pigment I used in this piece, I traveled to southern Spain, to the Minas de Rio Tinto. These ancient mines are like something out of a Zorro movie. Dating back over 300 years before the time of Christ, they have been operated by the Phoenicians, Tartessians, Iberians, Romans, Greeks, Visigoths, Moors, and obviously the Spanish. But we are here for a color that was created long before any of that existed, back in the Paleozoic era - over 530 million years ago; and, for centuries, it has turned the river red.

All paintings are shipped unstretched, rolled, and in a protective shipping tube. For other options please email mary.jones@christopherdulin.com.
