The Artist:
I'm a ceramic sculptor and painter. My work grows out of the time I spend living with and learning from indigenous and historical communities around the world. Under their guidance, I collect and process the natural pigments they've used for generations in spiritual practice, ritual body painting, art, and textile dyeing.
I use those pigments as the painted finish of my sculptures and to create the paintings that accompany them. The sculptures themselves are depictions of the ancestors, deities, spirits, and living people from the communities these pigments come from. The painting are simple brushstrokes that echo the sculptures form.
My work is the combined result of deep cultural experience, ancestral material, and ancient spiritual practice.
